Background Information:

Board Policy #4.408 – Use of Multimedia needs a slight amendment, and title change, which are mainly “housekeeping” changes in policy. TSBA’s recommended policy has been updated to reflect the diversity of educational materials available to schools. Another consideration is that the state of the art is constantly changing and Board policies should embrace change. The use of VCR and DVDs represented the state of the art at the time the current Board Policy was drafted. Since then, the pace of change has only increased. A Board should try to avoid listing the technologies available in a policy, which quickly results in an obsolete policy.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend adoption of TSBA’s recommended policy on first reading.
